Here's a recent piece.

In This Room

in this living
room i've stolen kisses
from the drunken lips
of a girl i never met again
& another i never let leave.
i've been high & touched the edge
of a heaven undeserved
& settled on a well-earned hell
where i made midnight calls to friends’
machines & nursed emptiness from wine.

in this room this jewish girl learned to pray
in the language of feng shui & brushstrokes.
seven layers of red paint later
the pure & white walls of a past
that wasn't mine were semi-glossed over.
weeks worth of working meditation
& i discovered a connection
to my inner healing
buddha, uncovered in the covering
of surfaces an endless present
eternally gifting itself.

& in this room, in the presence
of friends, lovers
(best, becoming, untested, true)
i’ve finally found the room
for sacred space, the divine truth
we share this lifelong search
to touch another living soul
as tangibly as the clothes we wear
to hide from what we crave, the knowledge
that we’re momentary beings
filled by a deep desire to feel
everything we can
before there’s nothing there at all.
